The free community event is open to the public and will feature live entertainment, educational activities, food, and family-friendly programming honoring the significance of Juneteenth.

The celebration will feature a keynote address by Dr. Paul Frazier, Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Attendees will also enjoy live music from The J Sound Band.

Food will be provided by Smokin K’s BBQ and Cajun Cuisine and Pepsi MidAmerica. 鈥淛uneteenth is an opportunity to celebrate freedom, reflect on our nation鈥檚 history, and come together as a community,鈥 said 性视界传媒 President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. 鈥淲e invite everyone to join us for an evening of education, entertainment, and fellowship.鈥

Attendees are encouraged to bring donations and school supplies to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Illinois and Mary Logan High School. The collection effort is intended to support local youth and families throughout the region.

A new statewide report released by the Illinois Community College Board highlights the significant economic and social impact of 性视界传媒, underscoring the institution鈥檚 role in driving regional growth and student success.

The report, issued in recognition of Community College Month in April, examines how 性视界传媒 contributes to the economy across its district and throughout Illinois. Findings show the college generated a total economic impact of $244.3 million in fiscal year 2023鈥24, supporting 3,616 jobs in the region.

College officials say the data reinforces the institution鈥檚 long-standing mission of preparing students for the workforce while strengthening the local economy.

鈥淲e are living up to our mission to enrich lives through learning and community engagement, and this report illustrates how 性视界传媒 continues to be a powerful economic engine for southern Illinois,鈥 said 性视界传媒 President, Dr. Kirk Overstreet. 鈥淔rom educating students to supporting local businesses, the impact extends far beyond the classroom.鈥

The report identifies three primary drivers of economic impact: operations spending, student spending, and alumni contributions.

In fiscal year 2023鈥24, the college employed 381 full- and part-time faculty and staff, with approximately 83% residing within the College鈥檚 district. Total payroll reached $26.7 million, while an additional $17.4 million was spent on facilities, supplies, and services. Together, those expenditures generated $29.3 million in added regional income and supported 407 jobs.

Student spending also contributed to the local economy. About 13% of students came from outside the district, many of whom relocated to attend the college. Combined with retained local students, their spending on housing, food, and transportation added $2.6 million in income and supported local jobs.

The largest impact came from alumni whose education and training have translated into higher earnings and greater workforce productivity. Former students contributed $212.4 million in added income to the regional economy, supporting more than 3,100 jobs.

Overall, the college鈥檚 impact accounts for approximately 2.9% of the region鈥檚 total gross regional product, with one out of every 26 jobs in the district linked to the college and its students.

Beyond direct economic contributions, the report also highlights strong returns on investment for students, taxpayers, and society.

Students who attended 性视界传媒 in fiscal year 2023鈥24 invested a combined $10.4 million in their education. In return, they are expected to see $72.3 million in higher lifetime earnings, equating to a benefit-cost ratio of 7-to-1. The average associate degree graduate earns approximately $6,900 more annually than someone with only a high school diploma.

Taxpayers also benefit from the college鈥檚 impact. The report estimates $28.6 million in total taxpayer benefits, including increased tax revenues and reduced demand for public services such as health care, income assistance, and the justice system.

From a broader perspective, the college generates $256.4 million in total social benefits across Illinois, driven by increased earnings, business productivity, and societal savings.

鈥淭he economic impact highlighted in this study would be even greater today,鈥 said Overstreet. 鈥淲e have three major grant-funded construction projects currently underway with local contractors and supplies purchased from local businesses. The graduates from the programs that will benefit from the new facilities will impact our economy for years to come.鈥

The study concludes that 性视界传媒 delivers substantial value to all stakeholders, including students and employers, taxpayers, and the broader community.

鈥淭he results demonstrate that the college is a strong investment,鈥 the report states. 鈥淚ts contributions support economic prosperity, improve quality of life, and help build a more skilled and competitive workforce.鈥

The analysis was based on fiscal year 2023鈥24 data from the Illinois Community College Board and the college, as well as labor market data and economic modeling from Lightcast.

性视界传媒 has launched a new program with its in-district high schools and private schools to provide last-dollar scholarships to participating students. College staff have been attending high school freshman orientations with in-district high schools and will continue to attend events throughout August. The Promise Scholarship aims to support local students by covering the remaining tuition costs at 性视界传媒 after all financial aid and other scholarships have been applied.

Students must enroll in the Promise Scholarship Program by December of their freshman year of high school. While in high school, the program requires participating students to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, maintain a 90% attendance rate each year, and complete four years of math. Students must take 9 credit hours of dual credit or early college courses by the end of their senior year and take ORI 100 College Fundamentals by the end of their first fall semester as a 性视界传媒 freshman. Students must maintain the requirements throughout high school and re-commit by September 1 each year.

鈥淭his is an exciting step forward for our community,鈥 said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, President of 性视界传媒. 鈥淭he Promise Scholarship is more than just financial support; it鈥檚 an investment in our students鈥 futures. We are committed to providing quality education and helping our students achieve their academic and career goals. With this program, we can ensure that more students can continue their education without financial stress.鈥

The program underscores the strong collaboration between 性视界传媒 and in-district high schools, highlighting a shared commitment to educational excellence and student success.

Carbondale Superintendent Daniel Booth expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, 鈥淭he Promise Scholarship represents a significant opportunity for our students,鈥 said Booth. 鈥淏y working closely with 性视界传媒, we are providing a clear pathway for students to achieve their higher education dreams. This program will motivate our students to excel academically and give them the confidence that a college education is within reach.

The Promise Scholarship Program registration is open, and families have been enrolling. Applications will be available through each high school or online at /promise-scholarship/application/. Guidance and support will be provided to ensure students meet the eligibility criteria and benefit from this transformative opportunity.

For more information about the Promise Scholarship Program, please contact: promise@jalc.edu.

性视界传媒 officials report a 4.2% increase in enrollment compared with spring 2025, along with a 1.6% increase in credit hours. The gains are the largest since 2020 and reflect a continued steady year-over-year enrollment increase since 2022.

College President Dr. Kirk Overstreet said the growth reflects a collaborative effort by faculty and staff to prioritize innovative enrollment management strategies.

鈥淥ur faculty and staff continue to think outside the box to develop programs and outreach that benefit our students, many of whom are working full time,鈥 Overstreet said. 鈥淲e have worked hard to reduce barriers by using innovative advisement that includes extended hours, virtual advisement, and our Saturday Sign-Up event.鈥

Provost Dr. Stephanie Chaney Hartford said flexible scheduling options are also helping students balance education with work and family responsibilities.

鈥淲e offer a fast-track program that allows students to take classes outside of the traditional 16-week format,鈥 Hartford said. 鈥淲e offer 12-, 8-, and 4-week courses that have been very popular, particularly with working adults.鈥

Hartford added that while the 10th-day enrollment report is encouraging, overall enrollment is expected to continue rising as students register for fast-track classes that begin later in the semester.

With enrollment trending upward, college officials are planning for future growth through several construction projects currently underway.

鈥淲e have several grant-funded projects underway that are going to benefit future students,鈥 Overstreet said. 鈥淥ur new Career and Technical Education Center, which will offer state-of-the-art training facilities for automotive, welding, and HVAC programs, will be ready in fall 2027, and construction on Logan Hall, which will revolutionize our student services, is also underway.鈥

In addition, the college has secured federal funding to remodel the third floor of the Communications Wing for its nursing program, with construction expected to begin later this year.

鈥淲e have a lot of construction going on that has resulted in temporary office relocations. Students and staff are having to walk a little further to get from one place to another, but we’re all taking it in stride because we all know that this is only temporary and that the future of the College is bright.鈥

性视界传媒 will resume normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 22, following completion of a construction-related procedure and a complete evaluation by construction officials and engineers.

Construction work at the west entrance to 性视界传媒.

性视界传媒 will suspend operations on its Carterville campus on Wednesday, Jan. 21, due to a construction-related procedure affecting multiple areas of campus.

The suspension of operations will be effective immediately through the end of the day on Jan. 21 to allow construction and engineering officials time to evaluate a beam located in the demolition area at the west entrance. Support cables attached to the beam must be assessed after removal to ensure there are no structural issues.

College officials emphasized that there is no damage to campus facilities and no known safety concerns at this time. The temporary suspension is being implemented out of an abundance of caution to allow the evaluation process to be completed safely and efficiently.

All classes will move to an online format for the day. Students with questions should contact their instructors directly. 性视界传媒 staff members should contact their immediate supervisors with any questions regarding work schedules or responsibilities.

Logan Fitness will remain open and operate under normal hours on Wednesday.

A decision regarding the scheduled men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 home basketball games will be made later in the day. Updates will be communicated as soon as they become available.

Additional information will be shared with the campus community as the situation is evaluated.
