Certificate of Achievement
Currently the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) requires licensed 鈥淕roup Day Care Home鈥 providers to complete 30 hours of college credit. This allows the Group Day Care Home to care for up to 16 children with the support of a full-time and part-time assistant. This DCFS educational requirement does not apply to a licensed 鈥淒ay Care Home鈥 provider serving 8 children alone or serving 12 children with the support of an assistant. In order to meet high-quality program standards, all childcare providers seeking accreditation and higher childcare reimbursement rates will benefit from additional educational requirements.
The Family Childcare Certificate program prepares individuals to provide professional, high-quality care and early education to children in a home setting. Please note: The completion of 60 college credit hours or an associate degree is required for teachers in childcare centers and assistant teachers in public schools.
Students completing this certificate will also earn the Illinois Gateways to Opportunity, Family Childcare Credential.
